** Before donating to GR15, you must do a passport verification to increase the matching funds to 150%! Otherwise, it defaults to only 50%!
Gitcoin Grants 15 has started. Upon entering the page, I noticed a window at the top:
At first glance, isn't this uploading a passport for KYC? After verification, the matching funds increase from 50% to 150%. It's understandable to prevent witch attacks and avoid projects, but this verification method seems too traditional.
After clicking on verification, I entered my personal page and found that my score was 50%. I can increase my Trust Bonus by submitting my passport. After submitting, it prompted that Gitcoin Passport has not been created, and then I entered the following page:
After connecting my wallet, the page looks like this:
What is this? Then I looked at the official documentation:
https://gitcoin.co/blog/wtf-is-trust-bonus/
It turns out that Gitcoin is not verifying identity through passports, but through various account and ETH address data. After all, the more historical data an account has, the higher its credibility, because the cost of falsification is higher; and the more such accounts there are, the higher the credibility.
There are 4 steps to verify an account. Let's take Twitter as an example:
- Select verification items. It is recommended to select all:
- Agree to Gitcoin accessing partial information of this account:
- Wallet signature:
- Wait for Gitcoin to read and verify the information.
After successful verification, Gitcoin will record the verified data points. For example, Twitter verification has 3 data points: account, number of tweets, and number of followers, with the number of followers divided into 4 levels (see the above image). There are a total of 19 account types and 61 data points.
I verified all the accounts, then returned to my Gitcoin personal page and submitted the passport. The effect is as follows.
At this point, the score has reached 150%, and donations to GR15 will be matched at a rate of 150%, compared to only 50% without verification.
In fact, I haven't completed the verification data points for all accounts, but I still got a perfect score. I speculate that each data point has a corresponding score, and as long as the cumulative score exceeds a certain threshold, a perfect score can be obtained.
Remember to do passport verification before donating!
